The only somewhat viable Republican candidate left in this year’s final sprint to the general elections, John Kasich, has formally announced the suspension of his campaign.

Trump’s primary foe, Ted Cruz, who’d actually claimed a handful of key primaries and caucuses, dropped out of the race yesterday in a flurry of awkward, inadvertent elbows to his wife’s head. Neither candidate is considered to be a tangible threat to Trump’s vice grip on the delegate count, but during early campaign months, before Trump was at the head of the pack, both appeared to possess qualities that could have taken them much deeper into the final stretch of this race.

One of Kasich’s advisors confirmed the news to CNBC after his scheduled campaign event in Columbus today was cancelled.

This all but punches Trump’s ticket to the Republican nomination and the general election ballot come November. In all likelihood, we’re looking at a Trump/Clinton showdown. We can hear political talk show hosts salivating from here.
