Last week, the New York Giants selected cornerback Eli Apple out of Ohio State with their first round pick. The move allowed the New Jersey native to play for his hometown team. One of the more interesting tidbits that came out of the news was that his mother refused to allow him to wear a rolex watch or diamonds during draft day. Penning a first person essay on Sports Illustrated, Apple’s mom gave her reasoning for the move.

Annie Apple:

“Eli was offered Rolex watches and diamonds to wear on draft day. I told him, ‘Dude, you’re an unemployed college dropout. You will not be on TV with a Rolex.’ So we decided if he needed to know what time it was, he could just look at his phone. I bought him a portable charger.”

Mom dukes definitely has her priorities in order and wants to make sure her son does the same.
