The Raptors Lost, But Kyle Lowry’s Half-Court Heave to Force Overtime Was Amazing

Last night’s Game 1 between the Miami Heat and the Toronto Raptors was every bit as competitive as most expected it to be. So much so, the Eastern Conference powerhouses needed an extra period to decide a winner. You can thank Kyle Lowry for that.

After Miami big man Hassan Whiteside failed to bury Toronto at the free throw line just seconds before, Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry dribbled the ball up court rather deliberately, then quite calmly aimed, and fired a half-court heave as the regulation buzzer sounded. The rainbow shot seemed to be in the air for several minutes, but when it landed, it crashed through the net, giving Kyle Lowry the most clutch bucket of his career, and the Raptors another chance at life.

Luckily for Miami, they were able to put Toronto away in the extra period rather handily, so Lowry’s heroics became somewhat of a moot point. But for him to do that in Game 1 at home after the Raptors very nearly didn’t make it out of the first round was pretty special.

This Vine clip of Dwyane Wade‘s reaction to Lowry’s shot falling through the net is also pretty special.
