No English rapper has garnered the attention Skepta has garnered over the last couple of years, and that will all come to a head tonight when his long-awaited new album, Konnichiwa, drops at midnight. Skepta, who scored an international hit with “Shutdown,” has been sought after by everyone from Puff Daddy to Drake during his ascent, and solidified his solo footing just as Grime, a particular brand of rap that calls England home, began to generate worldwide traction.
While you wait for the last few hours of the Konnichiwa countdown to expire, listen to “Lyrics,” a Novelist-featured cut, and one of the few collaborations on the album. Skepta also got together with Pharrell, A$AP Nast, and a select few other artists for the LP, his first full-length album since 2011’s Doin’ It Again.
