If the rumors that Golden State could be gearing to add a potential third Splash Brother, Kevin Durant, to their roster during his free agent offseason didn’t terrify you, this should.
Senior ESPN scribe Marc Stein is reporting that the second-most ridiculous team in the NBA, the San Antonio Spurs, could be quietly crafting a master plan that gives them the best shot at landing Kevin Durant during this all-important Summer free agency period.
Per Stein, ESPN:
The stately Spurs, league sources say, are just as intrigued as Golden State by the thought of making a run at Durant come July 1.
Later on, he points out what his fellow ESPN writer, Zach Lowe, pointed out.
Yet OKC suddenly can’t get through a single playoff game without being confronted by a foe playing for more than the mere W. Imagine the combination of Kawhi Leonard, Kevin Durant, and LaMarcus Aldridge to carry the Spurs’ torch for the next decade once the clock runs out on Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobli? Surely, they could challenge the Warriors’ freshly-set record for wins? Maybe, but the prospect is enough to incite a chill in the spine from fans of any one of the other 29 teams, Golden State included.
