Lauryn Hill, most famous for her legendary solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, was welcomed by boos at the Chastain Park Amphitheater in Atlanta on Friday, May 6. Fans were not pleased when the “Ex-Factor” singer showed up over two hours late for the 2016 Delta Live Nation Concert series.
Hill was expected to hit the stage at 8 p.m., instead the former Fugees emcee/singer arrived on stage at 10:20 p.m. only allowed to perform a few songs. By 11 p.m., the venue cut the lights and the singer’s sound due to its strict curfew.
Jewel Wicker of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution tweeted through the entire thing, “People started booing (because Lauryn Hill is nearly 2 hours late at this point) so now the DJ is playing Prince. I can’t make this up.” She continued, “Lauryn Hill just came out up nearly two and a half hours late to boos. Yikes!” Finally, when the show ended, “WELP! There’s a strict curfew here. They cut Lauryn Hill’s sound at 11 p.m. SHARP.”
Hill became Twitter’s trending topic over the weekend, as fans criticized her for her well-known tardiness. One fan even came face-to-face with the singer to express his disappointment. Hill blamed her driver, claiming he got lost, but fans didn’t buy it.
