Vh1 is reviving Hip Hop Honors this year, honoring Hip Hop’s female pioneers.
In a press release on Monday [May 23] the special is said to be returning for the first in six years, paying homage to femcees, trailblazers and trendsetters in a mail dominated culture. No word yet on who will be honored.
The special is being produced by Shakim Compere and Queen Latifah, who will also serve as executive producer along with Mona Scott-Young.
VH1 launched the Hip Hop Honors back in 2004, celebrating renowned rap talent, but the annual event stopped in 2010. 2pac, MC Lyte, LL Cool J and Snoop Dogg are among previous year’s honorees.
Vh1’s Hip Hop Honors will air live from New York City on July 11.
