Troy Ave will remain behind bars until his trial after he pled not guilty to charges stemming from his role in the May 25th shooting at Irving Plaza in New York City. The Brooklyn rapper was arrested the day after the shooting and charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm and reckless endangerment. Forthcoming ballistic test results are expected to determine whether a murder charge will be tacked onto his current docket, but Ave’s lawyer, Scott Leemon, is adamant about the fact that his bodyguard, Ronald McPhatter, the only victim of the shooting to die from his injuries, was not injured by way of the rapper’s actions. “The person who was killed at this event, he died a hero. He was his bodyguard. He wasn’t shot by Mr. Collins. He was a lifelong friend.”

Troy Ave pled not guilty to his charges last night at Manhattan Criminal Court, and his request of a $50,000 bail was denied. According to Rolling Stone, The key piece of evidence presented at last night’s hearing was an 11-second surveillance video that depicts Ave emerging from a backstage green room firing several shots into the venue. Of the video, Leemon says there isn’t enough context to draw definitive conclusions.
