Last week, R&B and Soul king Maxwell announced his long-awaited return to music, where he’s been largely absent since the release of his highly-successful BLACKsummer’snight album, which has been certified platinum and spawned a timeless hit in “Pretty Wings.”
This summer, Maxwell is returning with his fifth studio album, blackSUMMER’snight, and he released its first single, “Lake by the Ocean,” during Memorial Day Weekend. As a follow-up, the singer–43-years-young–unleashes “1990x,” a sensual cut that proves that though he’s been away for some time, Maxwell has been fine-tuning a craft at which he’s been very good over the span of his lengthy and essential career: the bedroom jam.
