On this day in Hip Hop history, Hip Hop duo Kool G Rap and DJ Polo release Rated XXX. Unlike anything Kool G Rap has ever released, this project is on the raunchier side. From the cover alone, one can tell this particular album’s goal isn’t to showcase the already well established lyrical prowess of Kool G Rap. It had one intentional purpose—to get the party going.
Songs like “Talk Like Sex,” “Fuck U Man” and “Check That Bitch” all contain an overtly sexualized message that is a complete 180 from what Kool G Rap’s fans were used to hearing from him. Although the album was not the most commercially successful product on the duo’s catalog, it did raise the most eyebrows and enable Kool G Rap to regain the attention of his dwindling support base and attack the game from a different angle.
