Wale has been hard at work on both his new solo album, SHINE, due out this fall, and MMG‘s forthcoming Self Made 4 album, which he’s executive producing. In keeping with his “no days off” motto, Folarin has dropped a new heater just a couple weeks after the release of SHINE’s first single, “My PYT,” which features MMG’s DJ Sam Sneaker.
Like “PYT,” this new banger, “Her Wave,” is a product of Wale’s affinity for expressing appreciation and perspective for the opposite sex, and it samples someone who joins Wale in being one of the best in the business at that very craft: Miguel.
One of the bigger releases off Miguel’s 2015 Wildheart album, “Waves,” provides the inspiration for Wale’s new song by way of being sampled. Wale and Miguel’s relationship dates back to 2011, when Miguel belted out the hook for Wale’s Grammy-nominated “Lotus Flower Bomb,” and continued to as recently as last year, when Folarin appeared on an early version of Wildheart‘s “Coffee” and made a cameo appearance in Miguel’s video for–you guessed it–“Waves.”
