Del and Dan the Automator, of course, rose to prominence as Deltron 3030 in the late ’90s, although they both had reputable careers of their own prior to starting the Deltron project. Combined with the thoughtful lyricism of Mr. Lif, the Gorillaz-esque collaboration is an ideal marriage of styles.

As Mr. Lif’s first album in seven years, Don’t Look Down chronicles his personal evolution, internal strength, and the ebbs and flows of life. It’s the most introspective and personal work from the ex-Def Jux legend to date.

Over the past seven years, Mr. Lif has been touring with Thievery Corporation and Don’t Look Down is the Boston emcee’s first new work for Mello Music Group since then. The 10-track effort directly addresses the difficulties of staying positive amidst duress—the intensity of the fight, sense of falling into despair, helplessness of drowning, and power of being able to save yourself.
