What appeared to be a good match-up on paper last night [Tuesday, June 14] at the Dyckman Summer Basketball Tournament didn’t translate onto the court when it was time for tip off.
With the best announcer in the game Mr. Cha Ching giving out his play-by-play analysis, Rodney Park was able to show fans they’re a team no one should sleep on. Already considered early favorites to make major noise come play-off time, the squad didn’t have to dig deep to bring out the big guns in their opening game at Dyckman. They took down TMT/Showstoppers with a score of 69-56.
Former Rutgers standout Mike Poole led all scorers with 16 points. Fresh off his 56 point performance at Hoops In The Sun, Poole was able to continue his hot streak from knocking down jumpers and finding various of ways of scoring whenever he’s in the paint.
Meanwhile teammate Kavon “Happy Feet” Lynch was putting on a clinic with an array of post moves, showing fans the big fella can mix it up with the best defenders on him whenever the ball’s in his hands. He finished with 15 points and slew of “ooohh’s” and “ahhh’s” as he put on a show for the passionate crowd.
TMT/Showstoppers’ debut was a hard fought, scrappy effort as they showed everyone their potential to compete is absolutely there. Leading the way for the Showstoppers was former Norfolk State University hooper Malik Thomas with 15 points.
