On Tuesday night [June 14] a two-year old boy was taken and dragged under water at the Seven Seas Lagoon by an alligator near a Walt Disney Resort Hotel and unfortunately he has just been found dead, according toCNN.
Orange County Sherriff Jerry Demings said the boy’s body was found “intact” near the attack site.
During movie night outside the Grand Floridian with his family around 9pm, authorities say the boy waded in about a foot of water in a lagoon when the attack happened, and an active attempt by witnesses and the boy’s parents to save him was unsuccessful.
The boy was dragged underwater into the lagoon that is connected to a series of canals that feed into large bodies of water.
There was an ongoing search for the boy and Disney had closed all beaches in the resort area “out of abundance of caution” a Disney representative said.
Following such an ordeal, controversial opinions inevitably ensue. Some are wondering whether Walt Disney could have done a better job cautioning visitors about the alligators while others are attacking the parents. Either way you put it, the aftermath of the incident is an unfortunate tragedy that will hopefully influence better precautions for the future.
