“Champions are born out of the fire.”
That’s how the new “Uncle Drew” commercial starts, and it’s a good one. Drew is of course the alter-ego of one Kyrie Irving, who sunk what will soon be known as “The Shot” over Stephen Curry in Game 7 of this year’s NBA Finals, sealing the first championship in Cavaliers history.

For much of his career, Uncle Drew has dazzled opponents on streetball courts in Pepsi ads, but this particular spot features no game action, and none of Unc’s usual in-game taunting. Instead, it features shadows dancing around the grey-haired urban legend, while a baritone voice reminds viewers that “buckets are earned.”
