After not hearing from Maxwell in eight years, he made a grand return last month with two new releases, “1990X” and “Lake By The Ocean.” Two days before the release of his fifth studio album, blackSUMMERS’night, Maxwell released two more singles, making four within a month’s span.
The two new singles are titled “Fingers Crossed” and “Hostage.” Maxwell explained to the New York Times, “I like to forget who I am as much as I possibly can. The problem is that I’m constantly being reminded that I’m supposed to be this way, this thing that everyone knows as a product. Can you imagine the anxiety?”
Maxwell took to his Instagram to join fans in counting down the days until the release of his long awaited album. As soon as the clock struck midnight, Maxwell presented his new body of work to the world via Twitter.
