Issa Rae is proving that her Black girl magic extends far beyond what she can do on-screen. This week, the tragic news of Alton Sterling‘s murder not only shocked Americans worldwide, it depressed the masses of those hoping for a change in the midst of the Black Lives Matter Movement.
However, Rae is providing the opportunity for Sterling’s kids to get the education that they deserve in a time of tragedy and injustice. The actor, producer and writer created a GoFundMe page to raise funds for his children and to date has garnered over $101,355 out of the goal of $40,000 goal.
The Awkward Black Girl star is making strides in her industry and providing Sterling’s kids with a chance at a future as bright as hers. The untimely death of Sterling has left his five children without a father and in the limelight for a devastating tragedy that all too many African Americans are faced with. The support of prolific figures like Rae who are willing to do what they can to secure the future of Sterling’s kids, shows how powerful American’s dollars can be when used to support those in a time of need.
While details of Sterling’s death are still being uncovered, The Department of Justice is launching a Civil Rights Investigation to get justice for his family.
