According to the New York Times, the driver of truck in the Nice attack yesterday [Thursday, July 14] has been identified as 31-year-old Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, a truck driver who was born in Tunisia. The death toll of his attack remains at 84, and the number of injured people is 202.
Bouhlel had a history of small crimes, including theft, spanning the past six years. He also received a six-month suspended sentence in March for assaulting a driver during an altercation in January, according to the Times’ report. There still has been no claim by ISIS or any other terrorist groups for this incident.
Buzzfeed News is reporting that Bouhlel was upset with his divorce, which was still ongoing before he was killed last night. They also cited a BBC reporter who said the father of Bouhlel said his son had a history of mental illness.
