Rumors have been flying for the past week as to who Donald Trump would choose as his Vice-Presidential candidate, and today he announced his official decision. The news broke yesterday [Thursday, July 14] that Trump would chose Governor Mike Pence from Indiana, but Trump postponed the announcement until today, citing the attack in Nice, France as the reason for his delay.

It was unclear whether Trump was indecisive about his choice, or if he really did want to delay because of the attacks, but now it is clear that Trump has made a firm decision. Gov. Pence is a pick that will appeal to social conservatives, who may have been worried by some of the remarks Trump has made on the campaign trail.

Pence also brings much needed experience to Trump’s ticket, both in Washington, as Pence previously served in Congress, and on foreign affairs, as he was previously on the Committee for Foreign Affairs in the House of Representatives.

The announcement comes three days before the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, which is sure to be a spectacle. Trump will surely face protests outside the convention, but he might also find resistance with his own party as he accepts the nomination.
