Attributing their increase in account openings to the Run The Jewels artist, Black-owned Citizen’s Trust Bank CEO Cynthia N. Day has taken to the financial institution’s official Twitter account to thank Mike for touching on the social and community benefits of banking Black during a radio interview with Atlanta’s Hot 107.9. Publicly sharing his decision to bank with Citizen’s Trust, Mike’s words and actions proved to hold weight as over 8,000 people, following the interview, made the same decision to open accounts with the bank, as well.

As a manner of putting his money where his mouth was, Mike’s actions were meant to function as a way to combat the mistreatment of Blacks and make a statement by putting a dent in the economy. Instead of going the traditional route of protesting, Mike’s argument shows that using dollars personal opinions to be voiced to big corporations in a way picketing never could.

In the wake of the increasing injustices plaguing Blacks in America, financial empowerment in the African-American community has become a heightened conversation being taken more seriously as a solution for change. Fellow entertainer Solange Knowles has also shared her decision to #BankBlack via social media while simultaneously offering resources for those interested in following in her steps.
