In the wake of the horrendous attacks that occurred in Nice, France last week on Bastille Day; Newt Gingrich, former House speaker, made some questionable remarks on Thursday, July 15 to Fox News’ host Sean Hannity. He proposed:
“We should frankly test every person here who is of a Muslim background, and if they believe in Sharia, they should be deported”.
Yes, this man who was formerly the leader of the House of Representatives just opted for an unconstitutional, racist “solution”. To make his rant even more vile he also suggested that if they could not be destroyed through the Internet the next step would be “destroying them using kinetic power, frankly killing them.”
When Hannity asked “how do you possibly ascertain whether or not that person really wants assimilation, really wants a new life” Gingrich lays out his three step process. First, “you have to ask them the questions”. (He does not give any detail to exactly what questions those are.) Second, “you have to monitor what they’re doing on the Internet” and third (and he wanted to be very clear with this one), “you have to monitor the mosques.” Stating that “if you’re not prepared to monitor the mosques, this whole thing is a joke”. Gingrich doesn’t stop there, he also claims that the mosques are the “primary source of recruitment”.
Many Americans, not just those that are Middle Eastern, consider Islam their religion, yet most Republicans can’t seem to differentiate Middle Eastern from Muslim nor Muslim from terrorist, for that matter.
