In case you do not watch the documentary, it tells the story of Steven Avery from Wisconsin—he was convicted of attempted murder and sexual assault in the case of 25 year old Teresa Halbach in 1985. After serving 18 years in prison, he was released in 2003 when DNA proved him innocent. In 2005, he was found guilty of the murder. He is currently serving a life sentence. Season two will go deeper into the story of his conviction—some believe law enforcement set him up to avoid a lawsuit.

Executive producers and co-directors of the show, Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos, made a statement regarding the renewal of the series. “We are extremely grateful for the tremendous response to, and support of the series. The viewers’ interest and attention has ensured that the story is not over, and we are fully committed to continuing to document events as they unfold.”
