Beanie Sigel has been one of Hip Hop’s most loved and feared emcees since his entrance into the game. Born and bred in the streets of Philly and known for painting vivid pictures of the struggle through his lyricism, he also has one of the most commanding voices and deliveries in rap.

That was until he was the victim of a shooting on December 5, 2014 that eventually led to him having to undergo surgery. The surgery was a success as he is alive and well and we have the pleasure of being able to still hear Beans rap to this day. Ultimately though, some might say he sounds like a completely different artist.

Sigel had a significant piece of one of his lungs removed during the surgery and it left him with a much different sounding voice than fans have grown accustomed to. Substance wise Beans is delivering the goods like he always has, but his voice has turned to somewhat of a loud whisper.

He’s an artist that has always been so easily identified by not only his lyrics, but a voice that demanded listeners’ attention and controlled every track he decided to jump on. This brings forth the next question. Will the fans continue to support the same amount now as they did prior to his surgery or will the new voice have an affect on his fanbase? It sounds crazy to think a voice change could result in a loss of fans but for an artist that previously had such a powerful delivery it’s understandable to think some fans might stray from listening as much if the artist they’ve known and loved doesn’t sound like the artist they’ve known and loved anymore. At the same time, there will be fans who are just glad to have Beans back on mic, fans that will continue to listen and support as if nothing ever happened to his voice. What are your thoughts? Is the new voice a deal breaker or just a minor adjustment to the broad street bully’s repertoire? Sound off.
