The forecast is in, and according to VH1, “It’ll literally be snowing divas!” in New York come winter. The network will bring back its VH1 Divas concert after four years.
The concert series started in 1998, racking up powerful performers like Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, Céline Dion, Gloria Estefan, Shania Twain, and Carole King. The six divas did a show-stopping rendition of “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.” The following years brought to the stage: Cher, Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, Brandy, Diana Ross, Donna Summer, Mary J. Blige, Marc Anthony, Nelly Furtado, Celia Cruz, Jill Scott, Kid Rock, Shakira, Patti Labelle, Gladys Knight, Adele, Jennifer Hudson and more. We could only imagine who will join their likes at the 2016 celebration.
VH1 announced the comeback this week [Thursday, July 21]. Brooklyn’s Kings’ Theatre will host this year’s show [Monday, December 5], a second time for the borough in the concert’s history. A holiday theme will tie together the festivities. Adam Lambert hosted the last show back in 2012, where VH1 paid homage to Donna Summer and Whitney Houston. Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and Ciara headlined .
VH1 Divas has been on-again, off-again in the past. The network pulled the show between 2004 and 2009. It returned as VH1 Divas: An Honors Concert For The VH1 Save The Music Foundation in Brooklyn and was hosted by Paula Abdul.
