Spreading the credibility, social media platform Twitter is now offering applications for users to become verified. In the past, gaining verification status was an arbitrary process in that only public figures were recognized as being verified users solely based on the opinion of the Twitter staff.

While any user has the option to apply for verification, the blue check doesn’t pop up without offering some information. Needing to supply a “verified phone number and email address, bio, profile picture, birthday and website” and potential a government-issued ID, TechCrunch details users will need to explain their reasoning for verifying their account.
