Last year there was word that Oprah Winfrey would be taking her talents to Hollywood as she shut down Harpo Studios entirely and made a full transition to the OWN Networks’ headquarters in Los Angeles. This week the Chicago base for Harpo Studios was indeed demolished.
Oprah took to Twitter to express her feelings towards the chapter she just closed. She stated:
Like watching the home you grew up in get torn to pieces. 😢
I loved this place and its people. #FarewellHarpo pic.twitter.com/lwQm3uA9CE— Oprah Winfrey (@Oprah) July 27, 2016
Oprah spent 25 legendary years in the Chicago studios. Back in March when the news was just released she stated:
[Chicago has] been everything for me. I’ve spent more hours in this building than I have any other building on Earth. … We were here when there was nothing but hoes and rats on the street, and now it’s one of the hottest neighborhoods [in Chicago].
The former Harpo Studios space will now be used as the headquarters for McDonalds. Nothing will ever take away the legacy that was built based off one woman’s charm, intellect and growing power as a talk show host.
