It’s been 22 years since New York-bred rap trio The LOX joined forces, and it’s a wonder we’re still discussing them as a viable force. A group of guys–Jadakiss, Sheek Louch, Styles P–that adapted to Puff Daddy‘s 1990’s shiny-suit realm, then battled through imminent label peril to release some of the most essential rap songs of their generation–both as a group and as solo acts–deserve to be celebrated in 2016. Especially considering the fact that they can unite at any given time and rise above a large percentage of the crop of artists currently out, be them internet sensations or street dreamers like their 20-something selves.
Today we’ve been gifted with a fresh example of that, as Kiss, Sheek and Styles have teamed up with Busta Rhymes protege J-Doe for a new single, “What Happens?,” that implores American communities and law enforcement agencies to work together to help end the racial and societal divides. Read their open letter below, and listen to the single here.
