Kanye West stopped by BBC Radio1 yesterday [August 1] and expressed his desire to design furniture for college students.
I have to work with IKEA. Make furniture for interior design, for architecture. I know that if I do a minimalist apartment inside a college dorm where the TV goes on the side of the wall, yo Ikea, allow Kanye to create, allow him to make this thing.
The “Real Friends” rapper has previous ties to IKEA through his collaboration with London-based designer Katie Eary on his Paris Fashion Week Collection 2011. Ye is imagining that his popularity will make the furniture collection appealing to college students. “Because, you know what, I want a bed that he makes, I want a chair that he makes,” he says.
IKEA spokesman Jakob Holmstrom revealed in March that Kanye has visited the design department at IKEA several times and “time will tell” if the collaboration will actually fall through.
