Angelica Maria Hartman Ortiz, known as “Mexico’s Sweetheart,” will receive the award at the 29th Annual Hispanic Heritage Awards on September 22, 2016. The singer/songwriter is a Latin-Grammy award winning vocalist that has launched thousands of national and international tours, appeared in dozens of films since starting her acting career at the age of five.
“The Hispanic Heritage Foundation is very proud to honor Angelica Maria with the Hispanic Heritage Award,” said Jose Antonio Tijerino, president and CEO of Hispanic Heritage Foundation. “She is truly ‘Mexico’s Sweetheart’ as she’s transitioned with great grace and relevancy from a child star to a teen idol to a true living legend. All our Honorees, including Angelica Maria, embody what it is to be real Americans and a source of inspiration for all Latinos. The Hispanic community has made significant contributions throughout history, and we are proud to recognize that impact in the present and the future as well.”
Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor and Author Junot Díaz were announced earlier this year as Honorees and other Awardees will be announced in the coming weeks.
