Over the past few days you might have seen video clips of President Barack Obama’s 18 year old daughter Malia dancing at Lollapalooza. Judging from the comments being posted regarding the videos, you would think she was doing activities like taking illegal drugs or stripping naked in public—but that was definitely not the case.
For some reason, Malia deciding to have fun with her friends at a festival—like many girls her age enjoy doing—seems to be rubbing people the wrong way. The blatant disrespect being thrown her way over dancing to some music and enjoying herself is mind boggling. This isn’t your typical celebrity who repeatedly finds herself involved in trouble with the law, this is the daughter of the President Of The United States that is enjoying her gap year in her studies before attending one of the most sought after schools in the country, Harvard University.
The fact that she is in the public eye due to the status of her family doesn’t negate the fact she was raised by a loving family, is well educated and has the right as much as anybody else to let her hair down and have some fun as long as she isn’t breaking any laws or being overtly explicit. Upon reading some of the backlash she has been receiving, one might think that everybody leaving negative comments has lived a life of perfection when in reality their judgements of this young girl make them appear nothing but rude and tasteless.
Congrats to Malia for taking some time to enjoy herself by having some innocent fun before embarking on her continued education at one of the most reputable universities in the country.
