Although Lance Skiiwalker has released released a song and video in recent months, Top Dawg Entertainment’s newest signee remains a mystery. In his latest video for “All Stops,” a song about traveling the world and the exhaustion it brings, the singer never actually shows himself. Instead, landscapes pass by the window of an airplane and clouds float overhead during sunset time lapses. “It’s all about the memories, darling,” Skiiiwalker sings.
Directed by Dave Free, it’s a cool dynamic to see just how involved he is with his artists and his commitment to the creative direction. A visual and a statement like this sets the tone creatively for Skiiiwalker. The video also shows TDE’s willingness to push him as an act that’s willing to push the envelope, and it ultimately shows that he fits right in with TDE. Let’s be honest, having an entire video without you appearing in it once seems like a TDE move for sure. Even from the ambiguous nature in which Swiiiwalker was signed to TDE, everything ties into the overall mission of what they’re trying to convey for him as an artist.
The anticipation builds for more from Lance Skiiiwalker. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, right? Frank Ocean still hasn’t dropped his album, and the anticipation somehow multiplies. Lance Skiiiwalker drops a video, doesn’t show himself, and the anticipation grows. The art of less being more. We’ve seen Skiiiwalker before, we know how he looks, but this video can be seen as symbolism for his mysterious nature, and it’s a cool element.
