Grammy Award winner The Weeknd is in a giving mood. After donating $38,000 to the University of Toronto to launch an Ethiopic Studies program a few days ago, the 26-year-old announced on Wednesday, August 10 Black Lives Matter is the recipient of his generosity as he gifted the organization $250,000.

Black Lives Matter, which advocates for justice and freedom for African-Americans, was founded in 2013 by Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza and Opal Tometi.

Following numerous police involved shootings against unarmed black men, the Canadian artist tweeted on July 7:

The “Earned It” singer is scheduled to perform at New York City’s Meadows Music and Arts Festival on October 1 and 2, alongside Chance The Rapper, Kanye West, Mac Miller and others.
