Kodak Black, one of the most exciting young artists in the game, was in danger of seeing his promising career derailed by legal troubles. After mixtape standouts “Skrt” and “No Flockin'” drew praise from Drake, Gucci Mane and Odd Future, Kodak inked a deal with Atlantic Records and quickly garnered a reputation of being a no-nonsense street rapper and impromptu two-stepper with crossover potential.
Unfortunately, Kodak was jailed shortly before the release of his Lil’ Big Pac mixtape in May on false imprisonment, weapons and marijuana charges, taking away his ability to adequately promote his music and tour. Luckily today, after roughly 3 months behind bars, Kodak was freed by Judge Lisa Porter following a hearing in Fort Lauderdale, FL this afternoon. Accompanied by Atlantic Records legal reps, the “No Flockin'” rapper pleaded “no contest” to the charges brought up against him. After delivering a Stern warning to Kodak and his team, Porter ordered that the Florida-bred rapper be released from jail and handed down a 1-year house arrest bid.

Despite his prison bid, Kodak has managed to keep his name fresh on the airwaves. His collaboration with French Montana on MC4, “Lockjaw,” is currently #73 on the Billboard Hot 100, his first-ever placement on the coveted singles chart. Kodak was also featured on DJ Khaled‘s recent #1 album, Major Key, alongside Jeezy and French on “Pick These H*es Apart.”
