“This experience has been the dream of a lifetime for me and my team,” Biles said.  “I consider it a privilege to represent my country, the United States Olympic Committee and USA Gymnastics by carrying our flag. I also wish to thank the city of Rio de Janeiro, and the entire country of Brazil, for hosting an incredible Games.”

The 19-year-old has swept her first Olympic appearance. She made history as the first American gymnast earning four gold medals in one Games and the fourth gymnast of any country to do so. She will take home a bronze medal, as well. And with the Closing Ceremony, the historical feats keep on coming.

No other American gymnast has ever represented the country as flag bearer in the Closing Ceremony and in any Olympic Ceremony since Alfred Jochim broke ground in 1936. Biles’ role also makes her the first female gymnast to act as an American flag bearer.
