Chance the Rapper and Frank Ocean have never collaborated on a song, but they’ve certainly worked together in the past. According to a new GQ story about the Chicago emcee’s stardom, Chance’s L.A. crib was once consistently stocked with celebrities. From J. Cole to Jeremih, there was often a music star just strolling the halls of Chance’s abode. So, understandably, that once came in handy.
Chance tells GQ‘s Zach Baron that once, when he was on a date at his house, Frank Ocean randomly hit the piano keys, began playing them, and began singing along to the very tune he was producing. It was a background affair, not like the singer was trying to steal the show, but it probably, definitely impressed the girl that Chance was with.
I was on a date one time at the crib, and we’re sitting in the front room, maybe rolling up some weed or something. And then Frank just comes up and starts playing the piano and lightly singing in the background of our date. Obviously, that scored me a lot of points with this female.
Odds Frank was one of the girl’s favorite singers? Likely. Ocean is about to debut atop the Billboard 200 with his sophomore effort, Blonde, with a first-week performance of nearly a quarter-million equivalent album units, even though it’s only available on Apple Music.
That guy’s got fans, and he probably made Chance a bigger one after that night.
