San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick incensed conservatives and racists alike after he refused to stand for the national anthem prior to his team’s pre-season game, arguing that it would be insincere to do so in the face of oppression and police brutality.
“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way,” he said. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”
Naturally his protest sparked a firestorm of debate, and now Tina Knowles has put her two cents in, saying Kaepernick should be supported for his protest.
“I’d like to know if they are as outraged by all the senseless killing of minorities, all of the racial injustices in America, that people are okay with,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “We turn a blind eye to it and as long as it is not affecting us personally we avoid thinking, discussing, protesting, and doing a thing about it.”
