Viola Davis and Denzel Washington are standing strong in the very first trailer for Fences the film tells the story of a retired baseball player and his family during the 1950’s in Pittsburgh.  The movie is based on the August Wilson’s Tony and Pulitzer- Prize winning play and directed by Washington himself.  The pair starred in the theatrical revival six years ago and now it is coming to the big screen.  The film also stars Stephen McKinley Henderson, Jovan Adepo, Mykelti Williamson, Russell Hornsby, and Saniyya Sydney.

Paramount Pictures released  the trailer (1:50) that is short but strong enough to stir some emotion and quickly reflect on life, family dynamic, and purpose.  The end of the trailer leaves us with powerful dialogue between Troy (Washington) and his wife Rose (Davis) that speaks to their life together and relationship.

“It’s not easy for me to admit I’ve been standing in the same place for 18 years,” Troy says.

“Well I’ve been standing with you. I gave 18 years of my life to stand in the same spot as you,” replies Rose.

The first trailer leaves us in anticipation for more. The release date is set for Christmas and eligible for 2017 Academy Awards consideration.
