Wyclef Jean revived his 2008 “If I Was President” to reflect the current state of American politics —equipped with a music video spoofing the presidential candidates.
With Funny or Die, the Hip Hop phenom dresses up as Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump, and even Bernie Sanders. “If I was president, I’d get elected on Friday/Assassinated on Saturday/ Buried on Sunday/ They go back to work on Monday.” The hook for the most part stays the same. Jean switches up his lyrics about government spending to highlight walls, Black Lives Matter, gun violence, the war in the Middle East, healthcare, police brutality, and the debate on the legalization of marijuana. He also answers the question plaguing several Americans — is Trump wearing a toupee? The rapper also gives a shout out to DJ Khaled.
“If I Was President 2016” is currently available on iTunes. It will also appear on Jean’s latest EP, J’ouvert, due next month [Friday, November 18].
