The Met Gala provides the city of New York with an annual smorgasbord of avant-garde fashion, donned by some of the world’s elite minds. This year the theme is entirely based around the lauded design aesthetic of Rei Kawakubo (pictured below in vibrant red), head of Commes des Garcons. Revered for her work on evolving the “boyish” look in both menswear and womenswear design, Rei Kawakubo is a living legend and the only designer besides Yves Saint Laurent to be present for their own Met Gala bash. Historically poignant, Kawakubo’s impact on the fashion landscape can still be felt.

A fashion exhibit solely dedicated to the entire Commes des Garcons archive will be posted up for city dwellers viewing pleasure. Over 120 of Kawakubo’s designs will be prominently displayed with an attention payed to the garments arrangement, each piece belonging to a seperate theme.

Cohosted by Katy Perry and rap-rockstar Pharrell Williams, stay tuned to see what an artist such as Jay-Z pulls up in come next summer at the Met, as he affiliated himself with CDG on 2013’s “H.A.M.” bragging “Comme des Garcons, f*ck yo fresh”. It will undoubtedly be of interest to peep each starlet conforming to the lavish theme on May 1, 2017.
