Shantay Dash, a high ranking, veteran officer of the New York City Department Of Corrections has resigned after a cell phone video of her kissing an inmate being held on Rikers Island surfaced.
Captain Dash can be seen in a short video kissing a prisoner, then high fiving him, all which was caught on an illegal cell phone camera utilized by the inmate in question.
This incident is yet another smear on the reputation of the NYCDOCS. This resignation comes less than a week after Mayor DeBlasio vowed to initiate a ten year plan to close Rikers Island following the suicide death of Kalief Browder, a teenager who spent three years in the country’s largest jail facility without a trial.
