BACARDÍ brings the Sound of Rum to the Governors Ball Music Festival this year at the CASA BACARDÍ onsite and at the After Dark series in Manhattan.
CASA BACARDÍ, located next to the Bacardi Stage, is a custom event space with surprise performances, cocktails, comfortable seating, and stage views from the roof. The newest flavor release from the brand, BACARDÍ Banana, was also served to attendees throughout the weekend in specialty cocktails.
Australian rapper Tkay Maidza did a surprise encore at the CASA BACARDÍ after her performance on the main stage. Also, on the Bacardi Stage, performers like Danny Brown and Majid Jordan had the tent filled with festival goers all day and night. Headliner Chance The Rapper also made a surprise drop in at the Bacardi Stage when he popped up for friend Francis and the Lights’ set in the afternoon.
During the festivity, TheSource.com got a chance to meet up with the Vice President Managing Director of Bacardi Rum, Ned Duggan for an exclusive interview.
TheSource.com: What’s new with Bacardi this year?
Ned Duggan: “This year with Bacardi Rum we’re excited to announce the Sound of Rum initiative that we have with Major Lazer. We have a number of different things going on from experimental concerts like the one we had last week in Miami, activations like today and the one coming next week. Also a limited edition of Rum we’re dropping June 15th.
Q: What inspired you guys to create the partnership with Major Lazer?
A: “So Bacardi has had a long standing relationship with activations in music. And we were looking for a partner with the Caribbean sound like from where we’re from – obviously we have roots in the Cuba and now Puerto Rico. We thought it would be cool to think of what Bacardi would sound like, and Major Lazer seemed to fit that.”
Q: Are there any upcoming collaboration with any Hip Hop artists? If not, who could you see yourself working with?
A: “That’s a great question but I think right now we’re focusing on our partnership with Major Lazer. But in the future we definitely could see something like that.”
Q: What inspired you guys to create this event for the Governor’s Ball?
A: “We were actually here last year as well, we love the outdoor, its a great season for our cocktail. The summer is always a great time to be drinking rum.”
