In the wake of iconic rocker Tom Petty‘s death, The Source wanted to take a look at how his music influenced Hip-Hop. Here’s a couple of great songs that sampled Petty’s 1989 hit, “Free Fallin’ “.

A cult-classic, “Free Fallin'” was one of those tracks that makes you lose all cool points  and break out your best Jerry Maguire impression and play air drum on your car’s steering wheel. Nerd Card showing? Well, see how these rap and R&B superstars morphed this contemporary pop-rock ditty into Hip-Hop magic.

“Good Morning” from Houston rapper Chamillionaire makes great use of the song.

Teenage Fanclub and De La Soul rocks it here…

UGK‘s Pimp C dropped this in 2006.

K-Pop Hip-Hop group YG Family feat. Teddy Park and Taebin drew inspiration from Petty.

And lastly R&B’s sweetheart Mya gives this song new life.

We will truly miss his musical genius! #RIPTomPetty
