Harvey Weinstein has lost his job and wife following sexual assault allegations, and many public figures have expressed their distaste for the situation like the Obamas. However, the producer claimed that Oprah Winfrey wanted to support him during his troubling time.
TMZ reports that Harvey said the media mogul called him saying she was ready to publicly support him. She suggested that he opens up about the situation and defend himself, and then she’ll be a supporter. However, Oprah’s camp is calling it BS.
Oprah has not spoken to Harvey Weinstein directly. Someone from his team reached out to her to see if she would talk to him, and she said she would if it was for an interview. There are no plans for an interview at this time.
The spokesperson did make it clear that Oprah is only interested in the truth from the producer. “I’ve been processing the accounts of Harvey Weinstein’s behavior and haven’t been able to find the words to articulate the magnitude of the situation,” Oprah said on Thursday.
This is the story of one predator and his many victims; but it is also about an overwhelming systemic enabling, and until that story is fully told we will fall far short of stopping future depredations on a similar scale, she added.
