According to the VERGE, three “husky” men wearing hoodies broke into a UPS delivery truck parked outside of an Apple store and stole almost $400,000 dollars worth of phones. Local news stations reports that the incident took place between 11:15am and 11:30am PT Wednesday morning. The UPS driver locked the vehicle before stepping into Macy’s to make another delivery. It was at that time that the three men managed to break into the truck, steal the phones and escape in a white Dodge van.

Police believes the thieves were watching the truck the whole time. “A witness observed three unidentified suspects wearing hooded sweatshirts..” said San Francisco Captain Rick Yick. “Given the dollar value in the incident itself it appears it was planned. It appears the suspects knew what they were looking for.”

Both UPS and Apple are working together with the police on the investigation. Each stolen phone has had it’s IMEI serial number cataloged, so Apple can track them down if people reports suspicious sales. SFPD spokeswoman Grace Gatapandan said, “If you’re going to purchase stuff go to an actual store to purchase it.
