And this time, the house (that is the place to be) is in Brooklyn. Tuesday, November 21st at 10pm, Oprah Winfrey’s OWN meets with Bedstuy’s queen moguless, Monique Greenwood with her new show “Checked Inn”. Checked Inn is a docu-series that gives viewers a peek into the Greenwood’s Akwaaba properties.

What is Akwaaba?

Akwaaba Bed & Breakfast Inns (located in Central Brooklyn) is the most successful B&B business on the east coast, while Awkaaba’s Mansion at Noble Lane (in the Poconos, PA) is cozy get away for couples that are exhausted by the hustle and bustle of life’s challenges. And the show, uses the two spots as a new experience to see how a little loving touch can go a long way; something that Greenwood picked up through years of servicing Black and Brown people as an entrepreneur and the Editor in Chief of Essence Magazine.

At Essence Magazine, Greenwood had a reputation of knowing how to curate the Black experience in a way like no other.

She took that feminine touch and applied it to the many real-estate properties in Brooklyn that she owned and grandmothered in about a dozen of young business owners looking to take their Brooklyn swag and create community. A few years back businesses like Brownstone Books, Bread Stuy, Bread Love BKNY thrived under her mentorship and now Peaches and other fancy-pants merchants, who consider this area as SOLA (Shops of Lewis Ave), all look to Greenwood as the successful model (even calling her landlord) in the service area.

Checked Inn is this next level for her. Hospitality on deck, we’ll see if she can translate her influence on the small screen.
