August Alsina has a lot on his mind, allegedly. Today on Twitter, the singer let off some steam after calling out Def Jam for postponing his album’s release.

“I would love to put my album out but Def Jam is holding it/me hostage because the system is not up & running until next year so they basically don’t exist. The label is just trash. I will release free music soon but that has been the hold up. Tell them to free me and the album,” Alsina tweeted.

Sources say that the album has been pushed back to 2018. However, Alsina has been trying to release it all year. His last album, Thing Called Life, was released almost 3 years ago in late 2015.

The 25-year old has been having a tough year despite the music. In an interview with Jada Pinkett, Alsina revealed that he suffers from a liver disease that leaves him feeling, “like sadness and depression is embedded in (his) DNA.”

There’s also the incident involving Alsina and fans in June where fans accused him of flashing a gun while in a grocery store after denying their advances to interact with him. Reports say he was feeling under the weather and was not in the mood to take pictures. TMZ reported the story last summer but there have  not been any charges filed against him.

Despite it all, the New Orleans-born singer has had a vey trying year in and out of music. While it’s easy to understand why Alsina is frustrated and unhappy about his situation with Def Jam, it is hard to see him blast his label for all of the world to see. As the hip-hop community gears up for major releases in 2018 from big names in music, we’re hoping Alsina will be one of the voices we’re listening out for.
