The Pinkprint artist says acting has a special place in her heart.
On Tuesday evening, Nicki Minaj caused quite a stir on Twitter, when she posted a provocative video which showed a series of clips of the dubbed rapper-slash-singer in a bath tub, with soft music playing in the background. Turns out, the racy video was a behind the scenes glimpse of her seductive Paper Magazine shoot. Titled, ‘Minaj á Trois,’ Minaj stars in Paper Magazine’s latest Break the Internet Winter 2017 issue, three years since Kim Kardashian appeared nude on the cover in 2014. Shot by Ellen Von Unwerth, the cover features three Minaj’s in raunchy, sensual poses, which drove the Barbz wild.
In the issue’s interview, the rapper discusses interacting with her large social media following, her generous donation earlier this year when she paid for a fan’s college tuition, and she even reveals attempting to release a joint mixtape with Future. When asked about her future plans regarding acting, Minaj shared that although she currently doesn’t have time to act in moves, due to her focus on music, acting is her first love.
“Acting is my first love. Of course, right now is the music portion of my life, but, you know, I can multitask,” she says. “I’ll always have the acting bug — I’ve had it since I was in elementary school. I was always doing plays and then went to a performing arts high school here in Manhattan. So I can’t see my life without it, but it definitely takes second position to my music.”
She went on explaining that after graduating from high school, auditions were the center of her life.
“Right out of high school I went on auditions ’cause that’s what we did. When you are a drama major, you do a showcase and then agents come to the school.”
However, her doubts began to grow and her acting dreams started to fade when she realized the reality of auditions, which prompted her to write raps.
“But then when it came time to go on those auditions, you realize that there are millions of [girls like you] auditioning for the same role. You’re not so special. So I just remember realizing, “Oh okay, this is not for the faint of heart…you know, this is gonna be a lot of closed doors, a lot of being told ‘no’ and you’re really gonna see if this is what you really, really wanna do.” I remember having that talk with myself…So I didn’t really pursue it.”
While her acting chops are presently on hold, Nicki Minaj will star in H&M’s holiday campaign film alongside actor Jesse Williams, which is set to drop later this month. She also recently made a cameo on the remix of Lil Uzi Vert’s record, “The Way Life Goes.”
