On Sat. Nov. 18th, Virgina 90s rapper Mad Skillz posted a tweet that expressed his thought about the generation gap in hip-hop culture. “The generation gap on the music is actually really simple…we were in a era making drug dealer music…these kids are making drug user music,” Mad Skillz tweets.

In response to Skillz profound statement relating to modern-day Hip Hop being sanctioned on the lifestyle of drug users, three days later, ATL artist 21 Savage decided to pen a letter to old-school rappers out of the spirit of defense.

The “No Heart” rapper also attempts to justify the drug user lifestyle in modern day hip-hop by indicating drug use is not new in the music industry and artists have been using it “since the 70s and 80s.” After, the new school artist suggests that he would rather an OG emcee “make a change” instead of constantly base judgement. Savage concludes the letter by informing OG rappers to stop using new school rappers as a “scapegoat” when it comes to the condition of the culture.

ATL rapper/reality star T.I, a seasoned veteran, came to Savage’s defense when he reposted the letter and infused his own scrutiny:

“Regardless of the subject matter…This is THEY TIME. Couldn’t nobody tell us how to run ours, or make us sound how they thought we should… Live ya life & do ya stuff young’n.”

@21savage lil bro speaking real truth tho. The fact of the matter is… There's been good, bad, great, mediocre artists,&otherwise in EVERY generation …. Even ours(2000s) , The Founding era (80s) & the golden era of the 90s. They're not the only generation to make "user music" either. Can anyone remember a Lil album called "The Chronic"? Or hit Recs like "Sippin on some Sizzurp"…. Regardless of the subject matter…This is THEY TIME. Couldn't nobody tell us how to run ours,or make us sound how they thought we should… Live ya life & do ya stuff young'n. Just bare with us,&try to understand …. y'all niggaz kinda different & take some getting used to. As the elders gotta understand they're SUCCESS JUSTIFIES the CHANGE. The Numbers DONT LIE!!! Can't hate on that.??‍♂️

Is this a case of when a new school rapper goes out of line? Or, does Savage have some type of point?
