Brooklyn’s own Cortez of the infamous Murda Ave crew recently traveled to Melbourne to take on Australia’s current #1 battler Dunn D on the country’s leading battle rap platform – Real Talk Battles at Laundry Bar.
The highly entertaining, close battle had many calling it a split 2 – 1 either way. Fans won’t be disappointed as it definitely was a strong showing from both emcees.
Cortez has been a crowd favorite for years. His extensive resume includes classic battles against top tier battlers like T Rex, B Dot, Daylyt, Head I.C.E, Arsonal, Charron, Dizaster, Bigg K, Thesaurus, Tay Roc, 40 B.A.R.RS, Soul Khan, Conceited, Hitman Holla, Shotgun Suge, and Caustic– this is abbreviated because a list of his matches could go on for days. But Cortez has made serious moves to expand his brand in Hip-Hop. The remix of his hot street banger, “The Classic” features rap legend like Method Man of Wu-Tang Clan. For those who say that battle rappers can’t make joints, this song from The Murda Ave leader quiets the noise.
Dunn D himself has been busy too.
He’s battled over the last two years, King of The Dot title holder Head I.C.E on RT, both Realiztic and Big Kannon on KOTD, and Shuffle-T and Innuendo on Don’t Flop (UK). DD is making sure people in the rap world know that the Land Down Under got that smoke too. Dunn D continues to travel abroad for battles and will battle his next opponent Bobby Rex in the UK on Chalked Out. Dunn D’s name has been floated as a potential for the illusive debut spot on URL for an Australian rapper, up there with Manaz Ill, Purpose, 360, Prime, Justice and Kerser – time will tell.
