Actress Naturi Naughton walked away with the NAACP Image Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Tasha St. Patrick in the Starz original series “Power.” The former member of the R&B group 3LW took to Instagram to celebrate her win and to thank the show’s writer Courtney Kemp.

“Thankful2this woman right here! @courtneyakemp for being an amazing friend/creator/showrunner/bosslady/writer/inspiration beautiful person! Thank you for giving me the gift of #Tasha,” Naturi said on Instagram.

Naturi has come a long way since she first came into the spotlight with Adrienne Bailon and  Kiely Williams in the R&B group 3LW. The “Playas Gonna Play” trio released two albums before Naturi left the group because of issues with management and started to get into acting. Among other films, the East Orange, New Jersey native had a role as Stacie in the movie Lottery Ticket with Bow Wow, Ice Cube, and Brandon T. Jackson. Ahe also starred in the biopic Notorious, a film dedicated to the life of Notorious B.I.G. Naturi played the role of Lil Kim.

Season 5 of Power comes as Starz network deals with recently being dropped from Optimum Cables premium channels list. 50 Cent and other actors from the show are lobbying to get fans of the show that have optimum to call their cable service provider to get Starz back into their cable package.

Other big winners at the NAACP Image awards were Blackish actress Marsai Martin who won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Diane Johnson, Caleb McLaughlin for his role as Lucas in the Netflix series Stranger Things and Jordan Peele who won two awards, Outstanding Writing in a Motion Picture and Outstanding Directing in a Motion Picture for the hit film Get Out.
